A very enthusiastic crowd in the city of Glens Falls. The protest was organized by indivisible.org.
A special thanks to the participants who provided quotes to bring the protest into context.
With 50501 and other groups, Indivisible is organizing national protests against the current administration and its unelected cohort.
MIKE: "There's a lot [of important issues] but the Constitution, that bothers me the most. [Trump] trashing the Constitution. Breaking all norms and stuff…Well, I'm here for my granddaughters. There's an air quality alert today. The EPA out of Albany, you can see it in the air and you can smell it. Well, what are things going to be like in five, ten years? Are my granddaughters going to have to wear respirators to go outside? I mean, are we gonna start burning coal again? Oh, yeah, that makes sense."
CAROL: "I’m here to try and stop cruelty. That's the biggest thing. Breaks my heart."
MOLLY: "There are so many reasons [why she is attending the protest]. Of course, I believe in freedom and equality, healthcare. I'm particularly upset these days about hearing the stories that legal and illegal immigrants are being shipped off to prisons, and tortured and treated like animals. I know that deep down, America does not believe in that. I think the only people who are supporting that are not reading the news. They're not informing themselves. I want to believe that America is better than this. I think we can be better than this."
JOE: "I'm with Indivisible ADK Saratoga, anybody can find us online and join us. We are trying to build a pro-democracy movement across America, with Indivisible and another allies, and today our message is Families First. We're simply telling Elise Stefanik, the congressional representative who's supposed to represent Glens Falls but isn't really around very much."
"We're telling her simply to put families before billionaires. We're concerned about cuts to Medicaid, that are going to devastate hospitals for everyone in the North Country. We're concerned about the millions of Americans, many thousands and thousands of people right here in the North Country, who are going to lose their healthcare. We want Stefanik to listen to us."
"We want the interests of families first, not bullies."
TOM: "I just hate what's going on. I want to do what I can. The environment, national security, corruption, the list goes on."
